Hall Scholars Program for OHIO Economics Majors

The Hall Scholars program was founded in 2023 due to the generosity of Eldon and Susan Hall. Eldon Hall studied economics at 91视频 and for years, he and Susan quietly supported many Economics majors with scholarships.

The Hall Scholars program seeks to elevate the traditional scholarship by giving students the opportunity to meet with Economics faculty, alumni, and distinguished economists and attend university lectures/events so that they have a better grasp of the work being done in the field of economics.

Recognizing the importance of creating a cohort of young economists, the Hall Scholars program provides fun opportunities to socialize (meals together, movie nights, outdoor recreation, field trips etc.). Ideally, students will continue their participation as a Hall Scholar throughout their time as an undergraduate at 91视频.

How to Apply

The Hall Scholar advisor, Julie Paxton paxton@ohio.edu, can answer any questions about the program.

Qualifications

In order to receive a Hall Scholarship, students must show academic success through their GPA in economics and demonstrate an interest and willingness to participate in the Hall Scholars activities. Financial need is not necessary to be a Hall Scholar, but it may influence the size of the award. Each Hall Scholar will take a full load of credit hours each semester (15 recommended). U.S. citizenship is required to become a Hall Scholar.

Financial Award

Recipients of the Hall Scholarship will get a $1,000 to $3,000 per year scholarship depending on financial need. Provided that the student maintain an excellent GPA (above 3.4) and attend the Hall Scholar activities, the scholarship will renew each year (up to four times).

Time Commitment

Participation in the activities is what differentiates the Hall Scholarship from other scholarships. If you apply to be a Hall Scholar, you need to commit to attending the majority of the activities. Typically, there are around four to five activities per semester. These events may occur during the day (i.e. lunches) or evenings/weekends. Students who are too busy to attend Hall Scholar events are encouraged to seek other scholarships that do not require a time commitment.
