iCUE Spotlight: Jan. 16-21, 2018
Welcome back to campus Bobcats! We hope you're staying warm as you brave the snow on the way to your first classes of the semester. Despite the wintry weather, there are still tons of events happening around campus that you won't want to miss - so be sure to check out the official . And remember, anyone with an active OHIO ID can and add events that are sponsored by an OHIO planning unit or registered student organization!
Here are a few highlights from the week ahead:
Martin Luther King Jr. Week celebration. Sponsored by the Office for Diversity and Inclusion and coordinated by OHIO's MLK Jr. Celebration Planning Committee, events celebrating the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. will continue around campus throughout the first week of spring semester:
- (ongoing through Wednesday, Jan. 31): OHIO's Athens campus is hosting a school supply drive to benefit a local school. Anyone is welcome to donate school supplies to the drop off boxes on the Athens campus - this is an awesome opportunity to support a great cause!
- (Tuesday, Jan. 16, 7-9 p.m., Baker University Center 219): This free event will focus on how individuals and faith communities can work together across their religious differences. Graduate student Je’ Hooper and friends invite everyone to stop in for their presentation.
- (Wednesday, Jan. 17, 5-6 p.m., Baker Center Theatre): Ambassadors from the Office of Diversity and Inclusion will present their research on a popular diversity topic. Feel free to stop by - this event is free and open to the public.
- (Wednesday, Jan. 17, 6-8 p.m., Casa Nueva): With a theme of 'Social Justice,' this showcase will allow talented poets, musicians, dancers, and more to perform their work. Stop by the popular Athens eatery to support local artists!
- (Thursday, Jan. 18, 5-7 p.m., Baker Center Theatre): Don't miss the FREE screening of "Cuban Roots/Bronx Stories." This docufilm focuses on the Cuban-American experience and follows the historical journey of an Afro-Cuban family from Jamaica, to Cuba, to the Bronx. A panel discussion will take place after the film.
- (Friday, Jan. 19, 1-2 p.m., Baker University Center 219): Co-sponsored by the College of Arts and Sciences' Love & Hate Theme, a panel of students, faculty, staff and alumni will discuss MLK's vision - audience members will also be able to participate. This event is free and open to the public.
(Thursday, Jan. 18, 4:30-6 p.m., Baker University Center 242): The spring semester Contemporary History Institute speaker series opens with Dr. Nukhet Sandal speaking on "Religious Leaders and Conflict Transformation: Northern Ireland and Beyond." The lecture is free and open to the public.
(Friday and Saturday, Jan. 19-20, at 7:30 p.m., Bird Arena): OHIO Hockey is celebrating its 60th anniversary by hosting Pitt for the Friday and Saturday games and all Hockey alumni for a series of special events throughout the weekend, including inducting Bill Gurnick, Tiff Cook and Ryan Johnston into the Hall of Fame on Saturday afternoon. A Midnight Meltdown rec skate follows Saturday's game, too!
