The 91视频 School of Art + Design presents an exhibition of two M.F.A. candidates, Sam Briegel and Cassidy Brauner, on view May 1鈥揗ay 9, in the 91视频 Art Gallery on the fifth floor in Seigfred Hall, with an opening reception Thursday May 3, from 5 to 7 p.m. This is a free, public event, and refreshments will be provided.
This exhibition, a double-solo show, contains new works 鈥淩eclaimed Comfort,鈥 by Briegel, and 鈥淢atrilineal,鈥 by Brauner.
When asked about her work, Briegel said, 鈥淢y work reclaims the identity of non-functional clothing textures and patterns. The body and the vessel share a similar vocabulary of lips, shoulders, bellies, and feet. I use this comparison to clothe implied bodies. As functional pottery, these works demand interaction through use.鈥
Brauner, who works as both artist and curator in her show, said, 鈥淢y thesis work is formed around the topic of genealogical research, matrilineal lines, and the way history has been documented. What we document and leave behind when we die are formational to our existence. The role the camera and the photograph plays in this topic is key to our understanding of ourselves and our shared histories.鈥
The 91视频 Art Gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday-Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday.
