Mid-term Progress Survey enhanced based on faculty feedback
The Provost’s Office is excited to announce significant enhancements to the Mid-term Progress Survey, an essential tool for providing OHIO students with timely feedback on their academic progress during an academic term. These improvements, set to launch in the spring semester, reflect the University’s commitment to supporting student success and empowering faculty with streamlined tools to communicate vital information.
Using faculty feedback from the fall semester, the revised survey offers an improved user experience and adds features that make it easier for instructors to provide feedback and share insights about their students’ performance.
Key improvements to the Mid-term Progress Survey
- Improved performance: With the redesign of the survey, instructors should no longer suffer long load time and timeouts due to high user traffic.
- Enhanced class roster display: Instructors can now view the entire class roster while providing individual student feedback; feedback may be entered for the entire class roster or a subset of students on the same page.
- Flexible feedback options: Saved feedback can be modified at any time before final submission, thanks to the new “reset” feature for students.
- Streamlined multiple selections: Instructors can now provide multiple types of feedback and add comments seamlessly.
- Expanded feedback categories: In addition to grade ranges, e.g., A to B- Range, a “No Grade Feedback” option has been added, offering greater flexibility in communicating progress when a letter grade is not appropriate or available. We understand that the timing of mid-terms may not directly align when we ask for feedback for students. Additionally, other options include:
- Attendance Concern
- Missing Assignments
- Lack of Participation
- Low Assignment/Exam Scores
- Contact Instructor
- Great Work
- Satisfactory Work
- Ability to provide individual comments
Incorporating faculty feedback
Faculty had the opportunity to provide feedback during the fall semester regarding the Mid-term Progress Survey and we value the feedback that was provided which shaped the redesigned Mid-term Progress Survey being used this coming spring semester. To ensure the new system is fully optimized before its spring rollout, several faculty members had an opportunity to test the updated survey in mid-December.
“We deeply appreciate the input our faculty provided and are excited to showcase how their suggestions have shaped these changes,” said Sarah Poggione, vice provost for undergraduate education. “The updated Mid-term Progress Survey will enhance our ability to support students during a critical point in the academic term.”
What does the Mid-term Progress Survey do?
By delivering actionable feedback midway through the semester, students have the opportunity to adjust study habits, seek tutoring, or leverage peer-assisted learning resources to enhance their academic outcomes. Feedback provided by instructors is emailed directly to students when the class survey is finalized. Additionally, success advisors are notified of feedback provided for their advisees.
Faculty contribute to student success every single day through their dedication to teaching, mentoring, and supporting students both inside and outside the classroom. The Mid-term Progress Survey is one of the many ways faculty play a vital role in fostering student growth and achievement, offering timely insights that help students make meaningful adjustments to improve their academic performance.
